The Antica Strada Regina runs along the western shore of Lake Como. It has Roman origins and it was the most important connection between Como-Milano and the Alps. Medieval pilgrims used to travel on this road. Today it is a beautiful itinerary offering some of the best and iconic features of Lake Como.

DAY ONE:   Dongo to Breglia
Your journey starts with a look into modern history in Dongo, where Mussolini was caught while he was escaping to Switzerland. You’ll be then following the lakeside itinerary through beautiful little towns and their iconic signs: the lake boats Museum in Pianello del Lario, San Vito Church in Cremia and the great medieval tower in Rezzonico. From the lake you’ll start hiking up in the mountains walking through olive trees, chestnut trees and peaceful villages like Carcente, where you’ll see the Rural House, an old house which is now a small ethnographic museum. Your first destination is Breglia and its breathtaking view among Lake and mountains. Time to relax at the hotel before dinner together and a good sleep.

Old little towns and breathtaking views

DAY TWO:   Breglia to Lenno
Your second day is more about descending, going through the woods around Chiarella’s water springs and other very suggestive mountain villages, like Plesio. Back on the lake to meet the noble side of Lake Como. Have a look at the peculiar Villa Milyus Vigoni in Menaggio, an old farmhouse which has been sumptuously renovated into a Villa. After your picnic lunch, you’ll catch the ferry boat to Tremezzo where Villa Carlotta will be waiting for you for a guided visit. The second destination of the day is Lenno. Walk along the Greenway to reach your hotel for a well-deserved rest.

DAY THREE:   Lenno to  Laglio
The noble side of the lake is not over yet. Start your day visiting the graceful gardens of Villa del Balbianello, one of the most popular villas on Lake Como, an iconic movie setting (Star Wars and 007 – Casino Royale) and its fantastic architecture embraced by the hill where the Villa was built. You’ll then leave the lake behind and climb up again in the mountains to reach the more spiritual Unesco Site Sacro Monte di Ossuccio and be amazed by the the Sanctuary Madonna del Soccorso. Not over yet! Back on the Greenway hiking through Roman churches, beautiful nature, tales and myths of Comacina Island. Catch La Curiera in Colonno and reach your hotel in Laglio.

DAY FOUR:   Laglio to Tavernola
We asked George Clooney to open up its Villa Oleandra for our morning coffee, but he hasn’t answered yet.
The hike goes on for your last day. Old villages and stunning landscapes will be your companions. You’ll see the waterfalls in Moltrasio, the same one that were inspirational to the great musician Bellini. Picnic lunch in the city center. In Moltrasio you’ll also see what is arguably the best hotel in the world: Passalacqua. Your walk continues among gardens, villas and woods until you reach Cernobbio with its luxury locations like Villa Erba and Villa D’Este. Discover Giardino della Valle, a very special place where nature, art, history and culture meet into this very special place. The end is almost there… let’s have a Spritz together to say goodbye to this adventurous but charming journey on the western side of Lake Como. Cheers!

The Garden in Cernobbio

Level of experience

Medium-easy for well prepared participants. Medium-difficult for people who’re not used to walk long distances.
You’ll be walking along normal roads, dirt roads, mule tracks and a few mountain trails.
Difference in height is moderate or low, nothing too difficult to stand.
Suitable to active people and real travelers who like visiting the area from the inside, living both the well-known locations and the less popular (but more authentic) sites.

What to bring

Backpack for your daily adventure, hiking shoes, comfy mountain clothes suitable to rainy or windy days too, cap, sunglasses, hiking poles, water bottle. You can take a second bag or backpack with you for your hotel stay necessities. This bag will be directly transferred to your hotel so that you can easily hike with less weight on your back.

Meeting point and Departure

Meeting on Friday October 9th 2026 at 9am at Bar Essenza Café in Via Sebenico in Tavernola (Como). The Café is at Gran Mercato market. Pls use the overground parking on the side.
